Here are some general themes and topics in the Treehouse on Dog River Road to discuss at your book club meeting:

Questions
Did the story unfold the way you expected? If not, what surprised you?
Which character would you like to hang out with?
Which character or characters were most like people you know? Did you feel the characters were relatable?
Did you think the way Hannah’s summer of caregiving children was realistic? Could you put yourself in her shoes? Did you understand why she made the decisions she made?
Did you understand Hannah’s point of view on compartmentalizing her relationship with Nathan? Did you feel for her?
Which parts of the book stood out to you the most?
What is the worst place you can imagine living for yourself? What is the best? What choice would you have made at the end of the summer? Why?
The first line of the book is “I’m against it, but I’m not above it.” How do you think that quote relates to Hannah? Have you made a major choice in your life that goes against your basic belief system and how did that make you feel?
Much of the book involves doing outdoor activities: kayaking, mountain biking, trail running. After living near Boston her entire life, do you think Hannah will be happy in the long run with a small town life? Would you be?
